Prologue
Stuart shook his head after stepping away from the back window when his peep show was over. He stood up after watching Katie. That man he supposed was her husband was performing an all-afternoon scene with Katie. His woman; she was Stuart's woman. Her husband didn't know how to dominate as Stuart did. Anyone knew that a dom made sure his own needs were satisfied and his sub's needs were automatically met because she lived to serve him. He remembered the trip at the lake some weeks ago. He thought he had given himself away. The bushes rustled when he was trying to settle himself better, but that idiot was so focused on Katie that he didn't hear him. They seemed able to perform anywhere. They touched and kissed on the ranch, in town, everywhere. Even here at home, he gave her all sorts of gratification and he took after he gave to her. What an idiot.
What kind of punishment was that at the lake, anyway? He heard the irritation in her husband's voice. Just when Stuart thought that the real fun was going to begin, that ass didn't do it. He didn't make her feel the domination, the anguish. The pain. He didn't make it count; really give it to her. He just made her come again. That husband of hers was truly a pantywaist. When he got Katie alone, he would make sure she didn't doubt that when she did not obey, she was punished, hard; that she was owned. He rubbed his aroused cock.
That day at the lake, Stuart had watched the couple gather up their items and start to walk back down the trail presumably to their home. Stuart went in the opposite direction, angry that he was going alone. He should have had her that time. He would get another chance, but it needed to be soon because he was running out of time. It had been so long now. He had been stupid to let it go on for so long. He had gone back to Missoula to re-plan his attack and, this time, it would be foolproof. It was time to take back what was his.
*****
Sitting in his car waiting for Katie was difficult. Stuart had waited for over a month to see her again. She had been guarded like Fort Knox during a money deposit. He had often parked near the closest entrance from Elk Ridge to the Circle C Ranch, walked into the woods across the way with his binoculars, and tried to get glimpses of her. Once he had even gotten on the ranch to look inside the window of her house.
She was the best participant he had ever had. He wouldn't call her a sub because she didn't do submission well as he remembered. Why didn't she just let him do it all? This time, she would listen to him just as she listened to that Liam character. What did she say her husband's name was? Key-air-awn. Really, what kind of a name was that? What kind of language did that Liam speak to her? He certainly didn't remember her having anything but some Spanish in her repertoire; she must have been holding out on him.
Anyway, it didn't matter. None of it mattered because she must have learned some things since she left him. She sure listened to that husband of hers. He had been watching them for a while. That man just called her name or looked at her a certain way, and she was right there doing what he wanted. He had a different tone when he spoke to her; sometimes it was sugar sweet and sometimes it was hard as nails—she responded to both.
He wouldn't do that, the sappy part, but he could do the hard as nails voice. That one he had down. He could learn how to not scream at her but put that gruffness in his voice to make her listen to him. He had her first, after all, and he deserved to have her again because he was taken away from her. She
would want him back if given the chance. Sure, she was a bit skittish about trying some of the things he had wanted to experiment with, but she seemed to do okay once he decided to do them.
He mentally chuckled. Boy, that ball gag was great for keeping people quiet. He tried it on his last submissive. Unfortunately, she had quit breathing. How was he to know she had asthma? He thought she was enjoying the play. It was too bad she had that asthma attack. It was not his fault. She hadn't told him she had health problems. Now that he had found his true player again, things would be okay. She was just right for him, and she wouldn't die on him, or call the cops, or anything else. Not like those others.
Finding her had taken some investigating. He had looked for that Liam character's name once he remembered it and that it was Irish. He researched newspapers, school write-ups and searched the phone books. He searched for days, but finally he found it and realized they lived near Katie's hometown. Once he had that information, it only took a little inquiry and here he was, waiting for his prize.
It was a lucky break that he had been able to get that forest service cabin. It was just up this mountain a ways because they were getting ready to close it down. Evidently, because of how high it was in the winter, only trail guides could take you up there after mid-October or the first real snow. No matter, he had already lugged up the supplies they would need and now he just needed a break where he could get Katie to come with him. If he couldn't get her to agree, he would just use his stun gun if pushed.
He remembered when the cop used it on him. It was tough to forget a zap like that, but he'd learned how effective it was. Done just right, it takes you down but does not kill you. He learned just how to use them so he didn't kill anyone, but one stupid girl hit her head as she fell. He would be more careful with Katie if he had to use it. He turned to look through the binoculars again. His time would be soon. He had learned to be a patient man.
Chapter One
Katie O'Connor was a little sore after last night. One of those yummy aches she had more often recently. Ciarán, her husband, had said he was going to continue to push her limits until they knew what she could do and still wanted to do. He was going to make her trust him the hard way—trial and error. Although he was gentle, he had blindfolded her. He then took her on a journey of sensations, not all pleasant, but all real. That same reality had her sore today. Katie smiled and went about the final touches needed to receive family. It was a good day.
This morning as every morning before, ranch chores were done early but today the whole family was coming for the September O'Connor Roundup that evolved after half the O'Connors had migrated to Elk Ridge, Montana from Sheridan, Wyoming over the years. Today the added chore of room inspections for guest readiness made the first hours hectic.
It was becoming a tradition to have a final gathering before the weather changed on them. Long winters could mean they wouldn't see each other for a while. Ciarán went to check his stock and assign the extra work for the week as he would be busy doing other things. Looking to his stable master to run the equestrian day-to-day operation and assign the grooms their daily work, he was satisfied.
He had just promoted his head groom to the stable master position when his former one retired and he wanted to offer the new man as many opportunities to succeed as possible. Mistakes made while the retiring lead was still around could be corrected. He wanted the grooms to learn to respect their new boss and it was hard when Ciarán was around because they all listened to him instead of their immediate boss. Ciarán decided to help him out by staying gone this week.
Ciarán ran the ranch with his brother Liam who had married Jocelyn several years ago. In the last year, they had adopted a sibling group of seven children and given birth to Padraig. Paddy for short.
It was nearing the end of September now, making the gathering late due to the building of his and Katie's home. Caoimhe was in the last trimester of her pregnancy and was cranky. It was unusual behavior for his sister, the fifth O'Connor sibling. Her husband Andrew Chauncey said he didn't want to be too far from her these days. Another two weeks and he wouldn't have brought Caoimhe at all, so Andrew orchestrated the timing as much as anyone did. So, after setting the final inspection week up, he packed up his wife and daughter Eirén carefully for the trip. Another six weeks and a new little one would make its entrance to the O'Connor clan.
When Caoimhe said she wanted to go berry picking for the last of the season's bounty with Jocelyn and her mom, Andrew laughed. Caoimhe ignored him and struggled to put on her sneakers. Andrew responded by touching her shoulder and giving her a disapproving face complete with lifted eyebrows. Caoimhe pretended not to understand his message to her and continued to tie her shoes.
He leaned down; his breath hot in her ear, speaking quietly so no one could hear him but his wife. "I have told you in two different ways that you aren't going, so if I have to say it a third way, sitting will be optional."
"Andrew!" Caoimhe screeched and then whispered, "I'm pregnant."
"I know, so I recommend minding me," he responded before dropping a kiss on her lips and walking outside. Caoimhe sighed with resignation and decided she would stay at the house.
Then there was Alisha and Shane O'Connor, the third sibling, who came to help, bringing with them little Seamus and Trenton, one and two years old respectively. Shane came to complete the final touches to the Haven House project. It was the state's newest safe house officially called Bhaile Haven and he would complete the final State inspection required. Alisha was glad to share her little ones, who were all grins and wiggles. She would help can the goods and knit for baby Chauncey. Along with Jocelyn, who was dividing her time between Haven House and the women in the family, she was learning to knit and crochet but was finding it harder than she had thought.
Cheyenne had come with Quinlan O'Connor, the middle child in the O'Connor lineup, who had some things he needed to handle in Bear Lodge, a neighboring community in the next county. Cheyenne was going to participate in many firsts for her. She had never hunted, nor would she, and she'd never put up the meat. She had only fished a little and had never preserved it in any way. She also had never canned or smoked anything. However, she could crochet well, and was eager to learn all the rest. The wedding was getting close for Cheyenne and Quinlan. Caoimhe was hoping she delivered before the wedding, but no one knew. Jocelyn bemoaned again the fact that Katie and Ciarán had their wedding before she had little Paddy.
Jocelyn's mom and dad came and were excited to join the family workweek. It was a last trip of the year for them as well. John Charles, Jocelyn's dad, had already hunted for the year but was anxious to do some fishing and Rihanna Charles was happy to do things as she did as a child growing up in her Sioux and Mandan home. She knew all the tricks of the trade and was ready to share with her vast audience. She was eager to work on things they needed. The Charles' brought with them Rachael, Jocelyn's sister. Randall, Rachael's husband, was not interested and said he had too much work to leave for a week. Rachael said she wouldn't have missed it for the world and mourned that her hubby was not the outdoorsman type of man, but she loved him all the same.
Sean and Siobhan O'Connor, Ciarán’s parents, were there to do whatever everyone else was doing. The one brother missing was Cián. He promised to fly in for the weekend. He'd land in Missoula and someone would pick him up. They had missed seeing him the last few times he took a short break so Sean and Siobhan were excited to see their youngest and catch up in person with him. Cián was in veterinarian school and they all proudly boasted of his accomplishments thus far.
Kelli, the second eldest child, was attached, at the moment, to Parker Jamison. She was not as excited to work on preserving as most of them. Nevertheless, she said she would come in the evenings, staying Saturday and Sunday for the family bonding time as she rolled her eyes and then laughed. She would drag Parker with her as much as he was able to come. Being a deputy in the local sheriff's department meant that there were plans he sometime
s had to break.
What everyone began to notice was the natural way that Kelli listened to Parker, not all the time, but she seemed to have started taking her lead from him. Jocelyn asked Kelli if she thought Parker was man enough to keep her the way she had described she wanted a man to keep her. Kelli responded with an unconvincingly nonchalant shrug of her shoulders and said, "Maybe."
Kelli moved the conversation spotlight to Katie. "Tell me how you have been doing lately, Katherine?"
"Better. I'm doing much better."
Jocelyn added, "She has been working on getting through this terrible mess. After that awful exchange last summer at the Missoula Mall, I think she and Ciarán are finally feeling somewhat normal. We have had to change the way things are done around here, but I think we all feel safer."
Katie watched Liam pat Jocelyn's bottom affectionately and spoke low for her ears only after hearing the exchange. Quiet conversations happened a lot in this family, observed Katie.
"Katie said I could share," she heard Jocelyn respond.
"I told you not to as I'm telling you not to again," Liam spoke just a bit louder for Katie to hear.
"Fine, but I will talk to Kelli if she wants to talk and Katie can tell any of her own information."
"Just keep it between the acceptable lines, mo ghrá," he said, patting her bottom warningly one last time before lifting his eyebrow at Katie, who merely shook her head and smiled as he watched her brother-in-law walk off. This was family and they should feel comfortable talking about things if they wanted to share. He was such a private person.
